Well Spring is here a little late and the Sun is shining finally!!
It's time to clean up your yard and get the kids out or invite friends over to have a long needed get together.
What should be done now....Cleanup of winter debris, Aerate, thatch, fertilize and freshen up beds. Add another layer of bark or mulch to your beds. This ensures the quality of your plants blossoms. Exposed roots can dry out roots and limit the amount of water uptake your plants are receiving.
What about aeration do I need to do this and what exactly does this do to my lawn?
Aeration naturally process air exchange between the soil and its surrounding atmosphere. If this does not occur naturally on your property, B Ponce Landscape Maintenance will mechanically remove small plugs of thatch and soil from your lawn to improve soil aeration. Textbooks refer to mechanical soil aeration as soil cultivation (coring, spiking, and slicing). In the lawn service industry the aeration process is commonly called core aeration , and homeowners often refer to it as aeration.
What are the Benefits of Aeration?
Core aeration helps the lawn's health and reduces maintenance requirements. Additional benefits of core aeration include Improved, or enhanced:
- Air exchange between the soil and atmosphere
- Soil water uptake
- Fertilizer Uptake and use
- Reduced water runoff and standing water including puddles
- Turf grass rooting
- Reduced soil compaction
- Heat and drought stress tolerance
- Resiliency and cushioning
- Thatch breakdown.
Why does Thatching need to be done?
Thatching removes a dense layer of non-decomposed grass clippings, roots, & stems that form between the soil and base of the grass stem. It is essential to remove this dense layer for your lawn to thrive, receive mother natures nutrients and fertilizer uptake.
When should Thatching need to be done?
